Center & Health Programs
Thanks
to a German donor, Hannelore Huttel, the
foundations for the fhn Health Center in the West
African nation of Ghana were already in place. At the beginning of
2003, she asked that fhn assume management of the
project. By obtaining staff (a doctor, midwife, nurse, and laboratory
technician) from the government, and empowering the local communities
to work together, we are replicating the model that is working so
successfully in Ecuador. Local inhabitants have joined forces with
center and fhn staff to
implement critical projects, which ensure access to fresh water, proper
waste management, promotion of gender equality, and educational support.
Together with international colleagues, the Ghanaian personnel are
committed to providing medical attention 24 hours per day, complete
midwifery services, health education, and health promotion programs. In
addition, the use of an ambulance for emergency transfers to one of
Ghana’s best hospitals enables us to provide all-around high-quality
health care. fhn’s health
center in Ghana now provides 8,000 people with medical assistance.
